I created my talking alphabet letters for those children who came into our community knowing the names of the letters instead of the phonetic sounds. So many were proud to sing the alphabet song and parents would tell me, "Oh they know their letters." I found it difficult to undo the learning of the names of the letters to their phonetic sounds. After sharing the talking letter stories with the children they quickly learned the phonetic sounds of the letters. Even those children working on the sandpaper letters quickly learned the phonetic sounds of the letters. Explosion into early reading after introducing my talking letters was a normal occurrence.
